He was struck unawares

He was struck unawares.

His heart was leaking.

And the sudden weight-loss

Took him to Paradise.

There, lying on a cloud,

He watched and admired

The dark depths of her eyes,

The twinkle, the shimmer

Of the play of light and

Her fleeting thoughts.

The sight made him lighter

The cloud went higher

Her image filled his view

And he got blind.

But Sun’s painful glare

Soon wrenched open his eyes

He shut them again.

Five drops escaped his shut eyes.

They died in mid-air.

Then the cloud gave way

And he fell with a thud

In a daze, on the mud.

He could never open his eyes,

His heart was leaking.

He was struck unawares.
